We have had our first "minor version"-level update in the X-Plane 12 lineup. This created a ”minor headache" (pun
intended) on the map interface, because our system was originally built for the "old" version numbering scheme
xx.yy
that had been used since time immemorial and the code didn't really understand completely what
the heck happened when Laminar Research switched to xx.yy.zz
numbering.
Personally, I fully understand why this was done; it becomes easier to track milestones and determine compatibility between versions on finer granularity when you follow semantic versioning; 12.0.0-12.0.∞ are supposedly compatible with each other, whereas 12.0.7 and 12.1.5 might be incompatible in some regards. Not to mention that this change will allow any persons from the development team susceptible to triskaidekaphobia to avoid forcing a jump into X-Plane 13 prematurely (obviously I am kidding) :D
Unfortunately, the semi-constant DDoS -attack against our servers that has been going on for over a year is still going on.
We have learned to - kinda - live with it (and react to the continually changing facets of it) as "the new normal", and it rarely manages to cripple our site - completely - like it did in the past. Searching airports on the site, though ... that quite often seems to be "slow as hell", and we're trying to find a way to shoot down these things - but frankly, it is not easy.
It has been a while since we generated any statistics regarding Gateway airports, so ... let's see where we stand at the moment;
At the time of writing this, there are 38346 airports in the Gateway Map database (this is supposedly pretty much the same as the number of airfields available in X-Plane 12) ... this used to be a higher number a few years ago, but defunct (places that are no longer available - or always were imaginary) airfields have been removed from the database.
Ordering the airports by X-Plane version, and how many airports have been modified by the community (and never touched since the initial release) are:
X-Plane Version | Airports by Gateway artists | Note |
---|---|---|
10.30 | 24 | |
10.32 | 52 | |
10.35 | 8 | |
10.40 | 16837 | At this point, all airports in X-Plane were imported to the Gateway |
10.45 | 337 | |
10.50 | 228 | |
10.51 | 67 | |
11.00 | 480 | |
11.05 | 393 | |
11.10 | 343 | |
11.20 | 1247 | |
11.25 | 452 | |
11.30 | 1158 | |
11.33 | 1121 | |
11.35 | 446 | |
11.40 | 1223 | |
11.50 | 2140 | |
11.51 | 1653 | |
11.55 | 1382 | |
12.00 | 3637 | |
12.04 | 434 | |
12.06 | 818 | |
12.0.8 | 1903 | |
12.1.0 | 796 | |
NULL | 1167 | These are airports that either have never been touched by Gateway artists or have not yet been included with X-Plane as of this date. |
Note that above, the number of airports listed is not the number of airports that were added in the particular version, but the number of airports included in the particular version that have not been modified by Gateway artists after the initial release of the airport.
